Should you remodel before you sell your Florida home?

According to a survey, 80% of Americans say they prefer to buy a move-in ready home as opposed to one that needs renovations.

As more companies opt to work from home, many C-level executives are moving away from the sky-high housing prices of Los Angeles and New York City and settling down in Jacksonville and St. Augustine. The housing market may be competitive to buyers, but buyers are still looking to move in as soon as they close on a home without any major renovations.

Kitchens and bathrooms are what really sell houses.

Small improvements can increase the value of your home

Adding granite countertops, new flooring, a backsplash, new kitchen cabinets, and a kitchen island can increase your home’s value by six figures.

And there are even small fixes you can make like upgrading the hardware in your kitchen, painting the cabinets, and upgrading the lights. A presentable, ready-to-cook-in kitchen will attract all buyers.

Keep it neutral

When renovating your home, remodel it for future buyers, not for yourself. While green cabinets may be the latest trend right now, nice clean white cabinets open up buyers to moving in right away and not get turned off by the idea of having to replace or repaint the cabinets.

Another area to keep in mind are children’s rooms. While you may have painted your kids’ bedrooms a hot pink or brilliant turquoise to match their interests, buyers are also more attracted to a clean slate of white or neutral colored walls.

The power of a deep clean

Whether you decide to go through with a renovation or not, don’t underestimate the power of a good deep clean.

That means scrubbing baseboards, mopping, steam cleaning carpets, and dusting every inch of your home’s space. Look around your doorknobs and light switches, the places you touch most in your home and make sure there’s no dark dirt marks that would appear in pictures.
